Direct Sales to Charts

AtVenu SoundScan Reporter Guide

Report your live show and merch table CD & vinyl sales directly to Luminate — and watch them count toward your Billboard chart position.

Why This Matters

Selling 300 CDs at your tour stops is real money — but without reporting them to Luminate, those 300 units are invisible to Billboard. AtVenu bridges that gap.

Your show sales now count toward your Billboard chart position, just like any retail sale.

How It Connects: Sales → Luminate → Billboard

Direct Sales → Luminate Tracking

Every sale you report to AtVenu flows into Luminate's database within 24-48 hours.

Luminate → Billboard Charts

Billboard pulls data from Luminate every week. Your reported sales contribute to chart positions.

Billboard Chart → Career Momentum

A strong chart position signals commercial viability to labels, booking agents, and media.

Your Distributor → Sales Data

Your distributor sees AtVenu sales in your analytics. This helps them understand your revenue mix.

7-Step Process: From Sales to Chart

⚠️ Important Details to Know

UPC Must Be Valid

AtVenu validates your UPC against Luminate's database. If your UPC isn't registered yet, AtVenu can't report sales for it. Register first, then report.

24-48 Hour Processing

After you report sales to AtVenu, allow 24-48 hours for Luminate to process and add them to their system. Chart calculations happen weekly on Sundays (charts publish Friday).

One UPC Per Product

Each distinct product (CD standard, CD deluxe, vinyl) gets its own UPC and charts separately. If you sell both, report them separately in AtVenu.

Anti-Fraud Validation

AtVenu and Luminate monitor for suspicious patterns. Report only legitimate sales. Fraudulent reporting is taken seriously and can result in blacklisting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use AtVenu?

No. AtVenu is optional. However, if you're selling CDs/vinyl at shows and want those sales to count toward Billboard, AtVenu is the official way to report them. Without reporting, those sales are invisible to Luminate and don't help your chart position.

How often should I report sales?

Report as frequently as you have sales — typically weekly if touring, or after each show. The sooner you report, the sooner they enter Luminate's system. Most artists report sales weekly or at the end of their tour leg.

Are AtVenu sales legitimate for chart purposes?

Yes. Luminate and Billboard explicitly allow artist-reported direct sales through AtVenu. AtVenu validates UPCs against Luminate's database to prevent fraud. These sales are treated identically to any other physical sale.

What if I sell merchandise at my website or online?

Website sales (if you're using your distributor's store or a third-party like Bandcamp with a UPC) should be tracked by Luminate automatically if they go through a retailer. Verify with your distributor. AtVenu is primarily for in-person show sales.

Does AtVenu cost money?

AtVenu is free to use for artists reporting sales. There's no subscription or per-sale fee. You only need a valid UPC on your products, which you likely already have from your distributor.

Can I report sales retroactively?

Yes, you can report past sales, but Luminate has a lookback window (typically 2-4 weeks depending on the chart). Report as soon as possible after sales occur to ensure they count toward the current chart period.
